1970:

Moving To Rush Springs

In the spring of 1970, we were invited to lead a

revival in Altus, Oklahoma, at Park Lane Assembly of

God, with Pastor Winston and Joyce Shaffer. He was the

most unusual pastor I had ever met. He would laugh

one moment and cry the next. During this extended

revival meeting, a life-changing invitation came. I was

asked to come for an interview at the Assembly of God

church in Rush Springs, Oklahoma. I shared my

invitation with Pastor Shaffer, and he began to

prophesy, “ y es, that’s where you’re going. You’re going to

be the next pastor of the First Assembly of God church in Rush

Springs!”

Larry Hatfield was the one who recommended

me for the position. He and his wife Helen had become

dear friends of Jean and I over the years. Our interview
