Newton ran and got a jar of water, and threw the water

onto the flame that was coming from the heater. There

was a huge explosion, with balls of fire shooting out of

the top of our trailer. Soon the fire trucks showed up,

accompanied by scores of people, to see what was

happening at the Assembly of God church. Praise the

Lord, our trailer was not damaged, and Pastor Newton

learned never to throw water on a kerosene heater.

We made the long journey to Artesia, New

Mexico for our next revival at the First Assembly of God

Church, with Pastor Calvin and Linda Newton. They

had recently moved from Ringling, Oklahoma, where I

preached my first revival, after going into full-time

ministry.

It was a very sacrificial season, especially for Jean

and our two young children, who were only five and

one. I’m amazed how Jean got Rick, Darla and herself

dressed, and went to church six nights a week. I’ll never

forget the month of December that year. We had no

revivals scheduled, and lived in that small trailer, with
