God's Prophetic People - A People of Passion, Purpose And Power
God's Prophetic People
God desires that we become worshipers like David was so many years ago. He desires us to be abandoned worshipers of Him alone, and to do this we must first identify and tear down the idols in our hearts so we can worship Him alone in spirit and in truth Worship Definitions: “Worship is an active response to God whereby we declare His worth. Worship means to attribute worth to something or someone . . . To worship God is to ascribe to Him supreme worth, for He alone is worthy . . . When we worship God, we celebrate Him: we extol Him, we sound His praises, we boast in Him” (Ronald Allen & Gordon Borror, Worship: Rediscovering the Missing Jewel). 2 “The essence of worship . . . the conscious approach of the soul to God with resultant communion between the worshiper and the Lord, the offering of prayer and the acceptance by faith of divine blessing, combined with ado- ration and praise of the Almighty, eternal God, in the name of His Son, our Savior and Redeemer, by the aid of His Holy Spirit . . . in as much as the destiny of the human soul depends on a right relation to God, the act of worship is the most important exercise of man" (George Evans, The Spirit of True Worship). 3
One of the most important aspects of true worship is understanding our heart. The heart, and understanding God’s design and desire for our heart, is critical to engaging in true worship.
I. THE HEART OF WORSHIP A. Characteristics of the NATURAL Heart 1. The natural heart is bent on evil (Genesis 6:5; Ecclesiastes 9:3; Hebrews 3:12).
