God's Prophetic People - A People of Passion, Purpose And Power
God's Prophetic People
As we all follow the father of our faith, we too can continually be men and women of faith by consistently building our own altars unto the Lord.
3. New Covenant altars (Romans 12:1-2; Hebrews 7:27,
10:4, 13:10-13).
As we look at the typology of the altar, many truths can be drawn out which we, as New Testament believers, can apply to our own lives. The Brazen Altar is commonly thought to be a type of cross upon which Christ, our whole burnt offering (Lev.1:17), offered Himself without spot unto God (Hebrews 9:14). The incense is an element representing Christ our intercessor (John 17:1-16; Heb. 7:15), through whom our prayers and praises ascend to God (Heb.13:15; Rev. 8:3-4). You see, it is important to note that altars didn’t necessarily have to be built in special places or in certain ways. They were simply a place built for sacrifice, worship, intercession, and a place to show thanks and appreciation.
The following are some New Covenant altars: a) The cross of Christ (Heb.13:10-13) b) The altar of conscience (Heb. 7:27, 10:4) c) The altar of self-sacrifice (Rom. 12:1-2)
As we build or rebuild altars unto the Lord in faith, we
will experience a renewal of holy passion in our lives.
The late Wendell Smith, former pastor of The City Church in Seattle, wrote a song called “Come Build an Altar” which is so fitting in regards to the topic of altars. The chorus goes like this: Come build an altar unto the Lord Return to worship and praise our God And the fires of revival will come sweeping through your soul As you touch the holy presence of our God
