God's Prophetic People - A People of Passion, Purpose And Power
God's Prophetic People
historically endless drought. Yet we must not forget the fact that Noah also built altars. In fact, it has been recorded in scripture that Noah built the first altar. Then Noah built an altar to the LORD, and took of every clean animal and of every clean bird, and offered burnt offerings on the altar. And the LORD smelled soothing aroma. Then the LORD said in His heart, “I will never again curse the ground for man's sake, although the imagination of man's heart is evil from his youth; nor will I again destroy every living thing as I have done. While the earth remains, Seedtime and harvest, cold and heat, winter and summer, and day and night shall not cease” (Genesis 8:20 -22). Noah was not the first person in the Bible to give an offering unto the Lord, but he was the first person recorded to build an altar unto the Lord. This was the first thing he did after coming out of the ark, and it shows us his heart’s response to the Lord. Has the Lord brought you through some horrible storms? Has He delivered you and your family from our present perverse society? Has He brought you through the Valley of the Shadow of Death? Has He rescued a loved one? Has He shown you loving kindness? If any of these things are true, the proper response is to build an altar unto the Lord, and give Him an appropriate offering of thanks and praise. 2. Abraham Another powerful patriarch was Abraham. In reading the account of Abraham, it is quite easy to see a common tendency throughout his life: Abraham was a man of unwavering faith. In fact, all around the world Abraham is known as the Father of Faith. Different religions look to him as their father. But Abraham had another common practice: he continually built altars unto the Lord.
