God's Prophetic People - A People of Passion, Purpose And Power

God's Prophetic People

In his book, A Passion for God’s Presence , Wayne Jacobsen states: “Even the best-laid plans of regimentation, in schedules or theological priorities, never fully rise to the plateau where love, joy, and beauty reside.” 11 Jeremiah, puts things in right perspective for us: “Thus says the LORD: ‘Let not the wise man glory in his wisdom, let not the mighty man glory in his might, nor let the rich man glory in his riches; but let him who glories glory in this, that he understands and knows Me, that I am the LORD, exercising lovingkindness, judgment, and righteousness in the earth. For in these I delight,’ says the LORD” (Jeremiah 9:23-24, emphasis added). Our main ambition in life, as stated by the prophet Jeremiah, is to know and understand the Lord. The Hebrew word “know” in Jeremiah 9:24 has a relational emphasis in it. It actually means “to know someone by experience.” 12 It is knowing someone by seeing them, spending time with them. We all need to return to the simplicity of our faith by getting to know the Lord more by spending more time together with Him. If all we do is go to church and open our Bibles on Sunday mornings, we have missed the main purpose for existing; we have deviated from the simplicity of our faith. We need to return to the Lord and enjoy an intimate, experiential relationship with him. We need to return to our first love in simplicity.

Moses, in speaking to the new younger generation who were going into the Promised Land, gave them this charge:

“Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God, the LORD is one! You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your strength. And these words which I command you today shall be in your heart” (Deuteronomy 6:4- 6).
