God's Prophetic People - A People of Passion, Purpose And Power
God's Prophetic People
In his book The Knowledge of the Holy , A.W. Tozer states: “The Church has surrendered her once lofty concept of God and substituted for it one so low, so ignoble as to be utterly unworthy of thinking men. This low view entertained almost universally among Christians is the cause of a hundred lesser evils among us.” 19 A low view of God gives birth to a shallow view of sin. With a loss of the fear of the Lord, people often seek meaning, fulfillment, and value outside the person of Jesus Christ. This results in a landslide of trouble and sin. Without the fear of God, there is no calling to account of man to God or man to man. Christians and non-Christians alike often reject the idea that they will have to account for what they have done in their lifetime. How wrong this is. Every person will have to give account of everything they have done and will do. When you lose real accountability, you lose the authority of scripture, and you become your own authority. And when you refuse accountability with God, you also have no accountability toward man. If there is no fear of God, and no accountability with man, this results in the tendency to not obey, to become disobedient. This begins with compromise. All of us have been tempted by the enemy in this area. Do you remember the whispers of the devil saying, “Oh come on, this movie isn’t that bad! It really won’t hurt you to watch it!” “Come on, you don’t have to be such a religious fanatic. You can go for it once and awhile.” “You can fudge a little bit on your lifestyle or cheat on your income tax.” Compromise leads to a loss of convictions. Remember, it does matter what you do in private. Do not compromise. Obey the Lord and those over you in the Lord. If you don’t, the result will be self-focus, not caring what you do in private, which leads to the degeneration of personal holiness. Once a person compromises their integrity, their convictions become weakened and they no longer live under the blessing and protection of the Lord.
