God's Prophetic People

the Lord dwelt amongst His people. Then after him came his son Solomon who built the temple. When he dedicated the temple unto the Lord, God’s manifest presence enveloped all who were present. What an experience that must have been! It didn’t end there. After a period of time, God sent His own Son who tabernacled among us — who lived and walked among us. He died on the cross so that all who call on His name might be saved and come into an intimate relationship with Him. Now all of us who believe have received the Holy Spirit who lives/dwells within us, so that the eternal and individual purposes of God can be realized here on Earth until Christ comes once again in glory and in power. The first question in the Westminster Shorter Catechism states the purpose of man is:

The chief end of man is to glorify God and enjoy Him forever. 10

B. Corporate Purpose (Matthew 16:16-18; Ephesians 3:10-11)

The corporate purpose of God is His Church. Some people are attracted to the Church because of: • The preaching • The children’s department • The youth group • The worship music

• The leadership • The preschool

These are not what you should lay your life down for. You must lay your life down for purpose. God has not called every Christian to simply come to church as a spectator. He has called every person to become active participants in their churches. Church is where you are to be equipped and trained to fulfill your individual purpose. You see, the Church is God’s
