God's Prophetic People
Our individual purpose must be built upon and work together with God's eternal purpose.
We cannot simply go around doing good things. We must do God’s things, His will, His way. The late Howard G. Hendricks, a respected professor at Dallas Theological Seminary, shared this with his students: “My biggest fear for you (leadership) today is not that you fail, but that you succeed in doing the wrong things.” 9 We must do what God has called us to do and walk in that daily. God’s greatest desire is to have an intimate relationship with us. God made the Garden of Eden to dwell amongst His people. This was a place of unhindered communication and relationship with man. Unfortunately, man sinned which resulted in a separation. Despite this separation, the Lord has always been initiating and pursuing this relationship. He chose Abraham to be the father of His people. The people again sinned, and because of their sin they ended up in bondage in Egypt. God raised up a deliverer named Moses who brought the people out of Egypt to come before the Lord in worship. This account is found in Exodus 19. As He began to reveal Himself, the people became frightened and asked that the Lord not communicate directly to them. Can you just imagine how that felt? It would be like a father desiring so much to meet his son or daughter, whom He had not seen up close in years, and the son or daughter refusing him. Well, it goes on from there. The Lord then instructed Moses to build a tabernacle so that He could dwell in the midst of His people. The result of this is that some of the people treated Him like a good luck charm. The years passed and the people asked for a king like all the other nations around them. He gave them their wish, and Saul became their king. He started off good but then went the way of other worldly kings. God then chose a man after his own heart named David. David built a tabernacle, and once again
