God's Prophetic People

D. Taking a Step of Faith Many of us are accustomed to certain ways of doing things — these are our habits. Some habits are good, while others may not be. The habits we form are often shaped by our upbringing and life experiences. However, when God calls us to move forward with Him, He may ask us to step out of our comfort zones and do things we've never done before. Just like when Peter stepped out of the boat and walked on water — something he'd never experienced or practiced. It was not a habit for him to walk on water, yet in that moment, God invited him to step into the unfamiliar. The Bible says the just shall live by faith (Habakkuk 2:4). We need to live by faith in all areas of our life, including singing or making a joyful noise unto the Lord. Without faith it is impossible to please God. There are tremendous blessings awaiting you as you step out of your boat and venture into new arenas by faith. Let there be a faith that rises in your heart and causes you to step out to experience the goodness of God. E. Being Alert and Sensitive to Your Fellow Brothers and Sisters It is important to stay sensitive to the Holy Spirit as you venture out in singing the song of the Lord in a congregational setting, whether that is in your Church service, small group meeting, or youth gathering. If the atmosphere is one of repentance, don’t jump out with a song of praise, celebration, and joy. Likewise, if there is an atmosphere of joy, don’t lead out with a harsh, challenging song of repentance. It is always important to keep in step with the Spirit of God. We as Christians are simply to cooperate with what the Lord is doing. “[For it is] Not by might, nor by power, but by my spirit, saith the LORD of hosts” (Zechariah 4:6).
