It is more than just “taking it by faith.” God gives a tangible supernatural sign in your own body – your tongue speaks a language you have never learned. This is called “speaking in tongues” or glossolalia. 10. DOES THE BIBLE TEACH THAT YOU MUST SPEAK IN TONGUES TO HAVE THE SPIRIT? The Bible does not say that you MUST speak in tongues to have the baptism, but it does teach us by illustration that if you do have the baptism with the Holy Ghost, you will be given immediate evidence of speaking in tongues. 11. FOUR CLASSIC EXAMPLES OF THE SPIRIT BAPTISM ARE LISTED IN ACTS: The Lord uses these four different groups to show that no ethnic or social group was excluded from this great experience. A. THE JEWS, Chapter 2 – spoke in tongues. B. THE SAMARITANS, Chapter 8 – by inference, speaking in tongues, for every other manifestation had already occurred in the revival. C. THE ROMANS, Chapter 10 – spoke in tongues. D. THE GREEK HEATHEN, Chapter 19 – spoke in tongues and prophesied. 12. IS THIS DOCTRINE OF TONGUES TAUGHT SOMEWHERE ELSE IN THE BIBLE? Tongues is also mentioned in 1 Corinthians 12, 13 and 14, but only in the doctrinal explanation of the Spirit’s activity AFTER the baptism. The Acts is the historical
