record and was inspired by God to be our example of this initial experience. 13. WHY DOES GOD CHOOSE THIS PECULIAR MANIFESTATION TO PROVE THE BAPTISM? The tongue is our body’s most unruly member (James 3), and yet it is the way whereby the heart finds expression (Matthew 12:34). Tongues indicates that the Spirit has possessed both the inner man as well as the outer man. Every believer in Christ is a candidate. Acts 2:29. 15. WHAT INSTRUCTION SHOULD BE FOLLOWED TO RECEIVE THE GIFT OF THE HOLY GHOST? Here is a suggested course: A. Pray to Jesus Christ for the gift of the Holy Ghost. Acts 8:14; Luke 11:13. B. Enter into the Presence of the Lord with praise and thanksgiving knowing He has heard your request and will grant your petition. Psalms 100:4; 134:2; Luke 24:52, 53. C. A person should worship and praise God. Then as you become aware of the Presence of the Holy Spirit, a deeper praise wells up in your heart. Then you should open your mouth and drink in the Spirit of God. John 4:10; 13, 14; Job 29:23. D. While drinking in the Spirit of God, anointed hands should be laid upon the candidate and the gift of the Holy Spirit imparted to them. Acts 8:17-19. E. As you continue to drink in the Spirit, the organs of speech are quickened, producing the stammering lips. Isaiah 28:11; 1 Corinthians 14:21. F. As the Holy Spirit takes over your thoughts, you become aware of words foreign to your understanding. 167 14. WHO CAN RECEIVE THIS EXPERIENCE?
