God And His Word - A Question And Answer Approach To Understanding The Bible

used a substituted word in its place - "Adonai" which means "Lord." Every time you see the capitalized "L-O R-D" in the King James Old Testament, it means that the original Name of God is in the Hebrew text. It can be clearly seen, therefore, that the expressed Name of God the Father was "THE LORD"; to confirm this thought, we have the witness of Jesus, the early Church, the Jewish Rabbis, Israel throughout the Old Testament and the present Jewish Old Testament Scriptures. C. WHAT IS THE NAME OF THE SON? "Thou shalt call His Name JESUS," Luke 1:26-31; Matthew 1:21; Luke 2:21. Note also Proverbs 30:4; Isaiah 7:14; 9:6-7. D. WHAT IS THE NAME OF THE HOLY GHOST? The Name, CHRIST, means the ANOINTED and it has pleased God that this significant Name should be associated with the Holy Spirit. JESUS became the CHRIST, or the anointed one, when God's Spirit came upon Him in the Jordan. Note Acts 10:38. E. OUR SIMPLE CONCLUSION, THEREFORE, is that the Name of the Father ("LORD") and the Name of the Son ("JESUS") and the Name of the Holy Ghost ("CHRIST") are fulfilled in the Name of "THE LORD JESUS CHRIST"! This is why Peter told the Jews that "God hath made that same JESUS, whom ye have crucified, both LORD and CHRIST." Acts 2:36. Peter then tells them to be baptized in the "Name of the Lord Jesus Christ." He did not say "Father, Son and Holy Ghost" because he fulfilled the meaning of Jesus' commandment when he actually used the literal names as they applied to the son of God, in whom dwelleth the fulness of the Godhead.
