God And His Word - A Question And Answer Approach To Understanding The Bible

THESE FIVE READINGS contain the only record in the Acts of the baptismal "Name" commanded to be, or stated to have been, used in baptisms:

A. Acts 2:38 - "in the name of Jesus Christ" B. Acts 8:16 - "in the name of the Lord Jesus" C. Acts 10:48 - "in the name of the Lord" D. Acts 19:5 - "in the name of the Lord Jesus" E. Acts 22:16 - "calling on the name of the Lord"

It is wonderful to note however that most of the older manuscripts tend to hold to the full name of “The Lord Jesus Christ.” Baptism performed "IN the Name" puts "The Name" UPON the one so baptized; and those who have had "The Name" put upon them in baptism are declared to have been baptized "INTO the Name," because they have in Baptism so "PUT ON" or "BEEN CLOTHED WITH" The Name. Check these references: Romans 6:3; 13:14; 2 Corinthians 5:17; Galatians 3:27; Ephesians 4:24; Colossians 3:9. 11. THE WORK OF THE HOLY SPIRIT IN WATER BAPTISM. Experience has shown that new converts need to be instructed about water baptism. If there is a group of converts that need baptism, it would be wise to have a class of instruction for them. Have each candidate thoroughly aware of the Bible's teaching on the subject. Above all, each candidate must be challenged to believe 161
