Matthew 5:27, 28 quotes the Old Law and the New Law. Under Moses it was a physical sex act that adulterated the marriage contract; under Jesus, the very thought of the heart can adulterate one's standing with God. Its mercy… John 8 shows a woman caught in the very act being forgiven by Jesus, and told not to continue in such sinning; Moses' Law would have had the woman stoned to death. John 4:17, 18 shows how Jesus dealt with a woman living in sin. 23. WHAT DOES GOD REQUIRE OF MARRIED PEOPLE ESPECIALLY? God requires married people to love and honor each other; the husband his wife as his God-given helpmate and the wife her husband as her God-given head. Ephesians 5:24, 25. 24. WHAT IS THE EIGHTH COMMANDMENT? "Thou shalt not steal." Exodus 20:15. 25. WHAT DOES THIS MEAN? We should fear and love God in such a way that we do not claim for ourselves what rightfully belongs to another. 26. WHAT PARTICULAR SIN DOES GOD FORBID IN THE EIGHTH COMMANDMENT? God forbids every kind of robbery, theft and fraud, as well as sinful longing for anything that belongs to our neighbor. Ephesians 4:28; Leviticus 19:35; Jeremiah 22:13; 2 Thessalonians 3:10; Psalms 37:31; Proverbs 29:24. 27. WHAT DOES GOD REQUIRE OF US IN THE EIGHTH COMMANDMENT? A. We should help our neighbor to improve and protect his property and business. Exodus 23:4; Matthew 7:12; Romans 13:8-10. B. We should help him in every need. Matthew 5:42; Proverbs 19:17; Hebrews 13:16. C. We should rejoice when we see him prosper. 1 Corinthians 13:4, 5. 28. WHEN A CHILD OF GOD DESIRES TO STEAL, WHAT WRONG ATTITUDE IS INVOLVED?
