The Reunion Th e Iron Curtain is No More
Our flight approach to the Moscow Airport was quite low. From my window I could see miles and miles of the small farm ing communities in the Russian countryside. I thought, "Is this the condition of communism, the mighty and threatening world power, Russia-- the USSR?"I was speechless! Everything I saw everywhere was barren. The roads were narrow and rutted, full of potholes and in need of repair. Fences and barns were falling down. Houses were largely worn down, unpainted or only partially painted, uncared for and the yards had been long neglected. Old farm machinery and vehicles lay discarded and covered with rust. What I was seeing was in agreement with my definition of third-world countries. It was late spring of 1991. After seventeen years of personal preparation in intercessory prayer and making prophetic declarations for the end of the USSR and the Communist Bloc alliances, by God's providence, the Iron Curtain had fallen, and I was returning to Russia. The Communist Bloc nations were allowing, encouraging, and sometimes even promoting various ministries ofJesus Christ to evangelize the USSR, especially on school and college campuses. The USSR was wide open for democracy and freethinking. Earlier that year we had held a prophetic conference in Lan caster, California. The speakers were Bob Weiner, Larry Randolph and myself. Bob Weiner had cast a vision for crusades that involved gathering a thousand college students to Moscow to introduce them to the reality of knowing God through the supernatural ministry of Jesus Christ.
