Chapter 22: Suggestions for Public Services 1.It is amazing how worshiping people often equatesound with the anointing of the Spirit. This whole experience was an education for us.We learned to worship in spite of sound and sun and architectural differences, and to realize that the Holy Spirit is present in spite of bad acoustics. Near the time we left that building three years later,we had overcome our problems and visitors commented on the beautiful praise and worship that filled the sanctuary! Incidentally,we got to like the Lutheran prayer altar so much that we put the same style into our new sanctuary. 2. Presbytery is the plural of presbyter, the term used of an elder in the early Church.Every local church should have its regular presbytery team of leaders who sometimes function pro phetically. But in our use,the presbyters are guest ministers who do not know the people, thereby enhancing the prophetic dimension. 3.I am aware that there has been much abuse of prophecy. Some years ago in southern California,a church group went overboard in prophecy, holding presbytery-type meetings each week and using their own in-house prophets. The approachbecameso focusedand inclusive that people were told not to make sim ple decisions of life without prophetic confir mation.I abhor this approach. This particular group got to the point of laying hands on peo ple's heads and publicly declaring so-called rev elations based on the bumps they felt on their heads! Delusion unchecked only becomes more confusing.Glenn Foster has said that this indi cates people have surrendered "the leadership of the Holy Spirit in their lives to the prophet."
