Your Sons & Daughters Shall Prophesy - Prophetic Gifts Today In The New Testament Church
Christ's Continuing Voice in the Church
A Chronological Record
Acts is the only bona fide historical record of the first-century Church. As William Barclay said: "In one sense Acts is the most important book in the NT....If we did not possess Acts, we would have, apart from what we could deduce from the letters of Paul, no information whatsoever about the early church." 2 The book of Acts is also theological, for the history of the Church is in itself a revelation of God.Luke's record of the early Church purposes less to account for the doings of the Church than to account for the doings of God in and through the Church. It shows us what actually happened and how the Church realized life through the Holy Spirit. The primitive Church was the prototype for spiritual concepts designed to work in every generation and society. The religious accouterments of the Church may change as history progresses, but the manifold activities of the Holy Spirit remain consistent with the original principles.
