I CORINTHIANS 9:27 - 10:24

27 But I keep under my body, and bring it into subjection: lest that by any means, when I have preached to others, I myself should be a 1 castaway. I Corinthians 10 Moses and the Israelites followed CHRIST Date Written - Spring of AD 57 1 Moreover, brethren, I would not that ye should be ignorant, 2 how that all our fathers were under the cloud, and all passed through the sea; 2 And were all 3 baptized unto Moses in the cloud and in the sea; 3 And did all eat the same spiritual 4 MEAT ; 4 And did all drink the same spiritual drink: for they drank of that spiritual 5 ROCK that 6 followed them: and that 7 ROCK was Christ. Many Israelites failed to follow CHRIST 5 But with many of them God was not well pleased: 8 for they were overthrown in the wilderness. 6 Now these things were our examples, to the intent we should not lust after evil things, as they also lusted. 7 Neither be ye 9 idolaters, as were some of them; as it is written, 10 The people sat down to eat and drink, and rose up to play. 8 Neither let us commit fornication, 11 as some of them committed, and fell in one day three and twenty thousand. 9 Neither let us tempt 12 CHRIST (Heb - ELOHIM ), as some of them also tempted, and were destroyed of serpents. 10 Neither murmur ye, 13 as some of them also murmured, and were destroyed of the 14 destroyer. 11 Now all these things happened unto them for ensamples: 15 and they are written for our admonition, upon whom the ends of the world are come.

12 Wherefore 16 let him that thinketh he standeth take heed lest he fall. 13 There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it. 14 Wherefore, my dearly beloved, flee from idolatry. 15 I speak as to wise men; judge ye what I say. Christians are to separate themselves from the world 16 17 The cup of blessing which we bless, is it not the communion of the blood of Christ? The bread which we break, is it not the communion of the body of Christ? 17 For 18 we being many are one bread, and one body: for we are all partakers of that one bread. 18 Behold Israel after the flesh: are not they which eat of the sacrifices 20 partakers of the altar? 19 What say I then? that the idol is any thing, or that which is offered in sacrifice to idols is any thing? 20 But I say, that the things which the Gentiles sacrifice, they 21 sacrifice to devils, and not to God: and I would not that ye should have fellowship with devils. 21 Ye cannot drink the cup of the Lord, and the cup of devils: ye cannot be par- takers of the Lord’s table, and of the table of devils. 22 Do we provoke the Lord to jealousy? are we stronger than he? 23 All things are lawful for me, but all things are not 22 expedient: all things are lawful for me, but all things 23 edify not. 24 24 Let no man seek his 25 own, but every man another’s 26 wealth. 9:27a No race, if won, is ever run without a “training schedule” ( and bring it into subjection ). Those who fail to train spiritually run pitifully. THE ADAGE IS TRUE: You run the race you train for 9:27b This word ( castaway ) is the Greek word DGοNLPο9 ( adokimos ) and means “ unapproved , rejected , not standing the test .” Adokimos was primarily applied to metals used for instruments of war. If a sword or a spear that was to be used in battle was not “fit” for battle it was discarded and shelved, i.e., it was “ unapproved ” and thus rejected ( Rom 1:28 and I Cor 3:15b & 5:5 & 11:28-30). 10:11 We cannot live long enough to make all the mistakes ourselves. Thus, we would be wise to learn from other people’s mistakes ( and they are written for our admonition ). 10:20 Behind every idol is a fallen spirit, and nothing sends a person to hell faster than worshipping the wrong god. 10:24 Paul admonished every believer to have the mind of Christ (Phil 2:5 and Mt 20:25-28) so that others would be served before self ( but every man another’s wealth ). The motto of every Christian should be: Others Lord, yes others, let this my motto be. Help me to live for others that I might live like Thee.
