lieve that we shall also live with him: 9 Knowing that Christ being raised from the dead dieth no more; death hath no more dominion over him. 10 For in that he died, 16 he died unto sin once: but in that he liveth, he liveth unto God. 11 Likewise 17 reckon ye also yourselves to be dead indeed unto sin, but alive unto God through Jesus Christ our Lord. 12 Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, that ye should obey it in the lusts thereof. 13 Neither yield ye your members as in- struments of unrighteousness unto sin: but yield yourselves unto God, as those that are alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness unto God. 14 For sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under the law, but un- der grace. 15 What then? shall we sin, because we are not under the law, but under grace? God forbid. 16 Know ye not, that to whom ye yield yourselves servants to obey, his servants ye are to whom ye obey; whether of sin unto death, or of obedience unto righteousness? 17 But God be thanked, that ye were the servants of sin, but ye have obeyed from the heart that form of doctrine which was delivered you. 18 18 Being then made free from sin, ye became the servants of righteousness. 19 I speak after the manner of men be- cause of the infirmity of your flesh: for as ye have yielded your members servants to uncleanness and to iniquity unto iniquity; even so now yield your members servants to righteousness unto holiness. 20 19 For when ye were the servants of sin, ye were free from righteousness. 21 What fruit had ye then in those things whereof ye are now ashamed? for the end of those things is death. 22 But now being made free from sin,
judgment came upon all men to 1 con- demnation; even so by the righteousness of 2 ONE the free gift came upon 3 all men unto justification of life. 19 4 For as by one man’s disobedience many were made sinners, so by the obedi ence of 5 ONE shall many be made righteous. 20 Moreover the law entered, 6 that the offence might abound. But where sin abounded, grace did much more abound: 21 That as sin hath reigned unto death, even so might grace reign through righ- teousness unto eternal life by Jesus Christ our Lord. Romans 6 Sanctification is a process. It is the result of continually yielding oneself to the Word of God - Jn 17:17 & Eph 5:26 Date Written - AD 57 1 What shall we say then? Shall we con- tinue in sin, that grace may abound? 2 God forbid. How shall we, that are dead to sin, live any longer therein? 3 Know ye not, that so many of us as were 7 baptized into Jesus Christ were bap- tized into his death? 4 Therefore we are 8 buried with him by baptism 9 into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in 10 newness of life. The promise of a resurrected body for N.T. saints (Fulfilled - Rev 4:2) 5 11 For if we have been planted together in the likeness of his death, 12 we shall be also in the likeness of his resurrection: P 6 Knowing this, that our 13 old man is 14 crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, 15 that henceforth we should not serve sin. 7 For he that is dead is freed from sin. 8 Now if we be dead with Christ, we be-

5:20 THE ADAGE IS TRUE: The worse the place (where sin abounded) the better the grace (grace did much more abound) . 6:2 “ God forbid ” means that grace cannot be utilized selfishly; it cannot be exploited for one’s own evil ends (Gal 5:13). 6:3 This word ( into ) is the Greek preposition HL9 ( eis ) ( Acts 2:38 ) and means, “ pointing into , i.e., with reference to .” It does not mean, “in order that.” Allow me to paraphrase Romans 6:3: So many of you as were baptized with reference to Jesus Christ were baptized with reference to his death. NOTE – The believer declares to the world that he has accepted the death of Christ for his salvation and believes in the resurrection of Christ for his hope . 6:4 Water baptism is an illustration ( like as ) of what CHRIST did for us at Calvary; it is not part of the Gospel and is therefore not necessary for salvation ( Mk 1:4 a,b ). None of the OT saints were ever baptized, yet all trusted the “factual” Gospel ( Lk 18:34 ):Abraham trusted the Gospel and he was never baptized (Gal 3:6-8 and Rom 4:1-4); Moses trusted the Gospel and he was never baptized (Heb 4:1-2); and Isaiah trusted the Gospel and he was never baptized (Rom 10:14-16).
