of Isaac, and the GOD of Jacob. And Mo- ses hid his face; for he was afraid to look upon God. 7 And the 5 LORD said, 9 I have surely seen the affliction of my people which are in Egypt, and have heard their cry by reason of their taskmasters; for I know their sorrows; The promise to Israel to depart out of Egypt as a nation; of Israel to enter Canaan (Fulfilled - Exo 12:41 - 1487 BC & Josh 3:17 & 4:1 - 1447 BC) 8 9 And I am come down to 10 deliver them out of the hand of the Egyptians, and to bring them up out of that land 11 unto a good land and a large, unto a land flow- ing with milk and honey; unto the place of 12 the Canaanites, and the Hittites, and the Amorites, and the Perizzites, and the Hiv- ites, and the Jebusites. PP 9 Now therefore, behold, the cry of the children of Israel is come unto me: and I have also seen the oppression wherewith the Egyptians oppress them. 10 9 Come now therefore, 13 and I will send thee unto 14 Pharaoh, that thou may- est bring forth my people the children of Israel out of Egypt. 11 And Moses said unto God, Who am I, that I should go unto Pharaoh, and that I should bring forth the children of Israel out of Egypt? 12 And HE said, Certainly I will be with thee; and this shall be a token unto thee, that I have sent thee: When thou hast brought forth the people out of Egypt, ye shall serve God upon this mountain. 13 And Moses said unto God, Behold, when I come unto the children of Israel, and shall say unto them, The God of your fathers hath sent me unto you; and they shall say to me, What is his name? what shall I say unto them?

2 And the 2 ANGEL OF THE LORD 3 ap- peared unto him in a flame of fire out of the midst of a 4 bush: and he looked, and, behold, the bush burned with fire, and the bush was not consumed. 3 And Moses said, I will now turn aside, and see this great sight, why the bush is not burnt. 4 And when the 5 LORD saw that he turned aside to see, 6 GOD called unto him out of the midst of the bush, and said, Moses , Moses . And he said, Here am I. 5 And HE said, Drawnot nigh hither: 7 put off thy shoes from off thy feet, for the place whereon thou standest is holy ground. 6 Moreover HE said, 8 I AM the 6 GOD of thy father, the God of Abraham, the GOD

3:1 The “Midianites” were descendants of Abraham by Keturah (Gen 25:1-2). 3:2 How do we know that the phrase “ ANGEL OF THE LORD ” here is referring to GOD THE SON and not GOD THE FATHER ? We know because the ANGEL OF THE LORD here is claiming to be the great I AM (vs 13-14), and only Jesus made that claim. CHRIST said of Himself in John 8:58: Verily, verily, I say unto you, Before Abraham was, I AM . NOTE – The Jews in Jesus’ day knew full well who Jesus was claiming to be –God in the bush. Else why would they want to kill Him (Jn 8:59 & 10:30-33)? 3:5 To paraphrase: The Lord said to Moses, “In your world you have to wear protective garb to keep your feet from injury, but where I’m sending you no amount of fleshly foot protection will help. So take off your shoes, Moses, and set aside your confidence in the flesh. You’re about to enter into My world” (Eph 6:12). 3:6 Moses may not have known every detail concerning the Gospel of CHRIST ( I Pet 1:10,12 ), but he certainly understood enough of it to be saved, (Heb 4:1-2 & 11:24-26 and I Cor 15:1 ), and “ WHO ” it was he was talking to (Jn 8:56-59). 3:13 Seeing the Jews had been in bondage for many generations under the most pantheistic and polytheistic race of antiquity (Egypt worshipped more than 2200 different gods/goddesses), the Jews were certain to ask Moses which god ( What is his name? ) he was referring to.
