64 1 And his mouth was opened immediately, and his tongue loosed, and he spake, and praisedGod. PF 65 And fear came on all that dwelt round about them: and all these sayings were noised abroad throughout all the hill country of Judaea. 66 And all they that heard them laid them up in their hearts, saying, What manner of child shall this be! And the 2 hand of the Lord was with him. The prophecy of Zechariah 67 And his father Zacharias was filled with the Holy Ghost, 3 and prophesied, saying, 68 Blessed be the 4 LORD GOD OF ISRAEL ; for he hath visited and 5 redeemed his people, 69 And hath raised up an 6 HORN OF SALVATION for us in the house of his servant David; 70 7 As he spake by the mouth of his holy 8 prophets, which have been since the world began: 71 That we should be saved from our enemies, and from the hand of all that hate us; 72 To perform the mercy promised to our fathers, 9 and to remember his holy covenant; 73 The 10 oath which he sware to our father Abraham, 74 That he would grant unto us, that we being delivered out of the hand of our enemies might serve him without fear, 75 In holiness and righteousness before him, all the days of our life. The future ministry of John the Baptist 76 And thou, child, shalt be called the

11 prophet of the Highest: for thou shalt go before the face of the LORD to prepare his ways; 77 To give knowledge of salvation unto his people by the remission of their sins, 78 Through the tender mercy of our God; whereby the 12 DAYSPRING from on high hath visited us, 79 To give 13 LIGHT to them that sit in darkness and in the shadow of death, to guide our feet into the way of peace. 80 And the child grew, and waxed strong in spirit, and was 14 in the deserts till the day of his shewing unto Israel. Luke 2 The birth of JESUS CHRIST Date - 1 BC/AM 3999 1 And it came to pass in those days, that there went out a decree from Caesar Augustus, that 15 all the world should be taxed. 2 ( And this taxing was first made when Cyrenius was governor of Syria.) 3 And all went to be taxed, every one into his own city. 4 And Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth, into Judaea, unto the 16 city of David, which is called Bethlehem; (because he was of the house and lineage of David:) 5 To be taxed with Mary his espoused wife, being great with child. 6 And so it was, that, while they were there, the days were accomplished that she should be delivered.

7 And she brought forth her 17 firstborn son, and wrapped him in swaddling clothes, and laid him in a manger; because there was no room for them in the inn. PF 1:69-70 The promise of salvation via the powerful HORN ( CHRIST ) didn’t begin with the birth of Jesus; it began with the promise of Jesus before the world began (Titus 1:2 and Rev 13:8). 1:76 According to Isaiah 40:3 and Malachi 3:1, John the Baptist was the foreordained forerunner to the promised OT MESSIAH ( Jehovah in the flesh), called “ LORD ” here. 1:80 Some contend that John associated with the Essene community at Qumran during his time in the deserts . If that be so, then John would have been associated with those who gave us the Dead Sea Scrolls ( Gen 14:18a ). 2:1 Caesar Augustus ruled Rome from c. 27 BC - AD 14. 2:4 Born in Bethlehem (meaning “house of bread”), and laid in a manger (feeding trough for cattle – vs 7), Jesus claimed to be the “ BREAD OF GOD ” from heaven, who would give His life unto the world (Jn 6:32-35,41,48-58). Even at birth, CHRIST was destined to “feed” the world with eternal life. 2:7a “ And she brought forth her firstborn son ” - See - Gen 3:15 & 13:15-16 & 15:5 & 17:4-5,7-8, 19 & 21:12 & 22:17-18 & 26:4,24 & 28:13-14 & 32:12 & 35:12 & 49:24 & Num 24:17 & Deut 18:15,18-19 & I Sam 2:35 & II Sam 7:11-12,14 & I Chro 5:2 & 17:10- 11,13 & Psa 40:7 & 89:3-4,29,36 & 132:11 & Isa 7:14 & 8:14 & 9:6 & 11:1 & 28:16 & 53:2 & 59:16 & 66:7 &Mic 5:2-3 & Jere 31:22 & 33:22 &Ezk 17:22 & Dan 11:37 & Zech 3:8 & 6:12 & 10:4 & Mal 3:1 & Mt 1:21 & Lk 1:31,35. 2:7b Being too poor to afford a midwife, Mary wrapped the SON OF GOD in long bands of cloth such as were used in the wrapping of the bodies of the deceased. Even at birth, CHRIST was destined to die. After this, she laid Him in a manger (feeding trough for cattle). The oddity of the sign (vs 12) was the rarity of finding a baby (especially the promised MESSIAH ) in a cave dressed in grave clothes and lying in an animal trough.
