neither shall ye go haughtily: for this time is evil. P 4 2 In In that day shall one take up a par- able against you, and lament with a doleful lamentation, and say,We be utterly spoiled: he hath changed the portion of my people: how hath he removed it from me! turning away he hath divided our fields. P 5 2 Therefore thou shalt have none that shall 14 cast a cord by lot in the congrega- tion of the LORD. P 6 Prophesy ye not, say they to them that prophesy: they shall not prophesy to them, that they shall not take shame. 7 O thou that art named the house of Jacob, is the SPIRIT OF THE 15 LORD 16 straitened? are these his doings? do not my words do good to him that walketh uprightly? 8 Even of late my people is risen up as an enemy: ye pull off the robe with the gar- ment from them that pass by securely as men averse from war. 9 The women of my people have ye cast out from their pleasant houses; from their children have ye taken away my glory for ever. 10 Arise ye, and depart; for this is not your rest: 17 because it is polluted, 2 it shall destroy you, even with a sore destruction. P 11 If a man walking in the spirit and false- hood do lie, saying, I will prophesy unto thee of wine and of strong drink; he shall even be the prophet of this people. The promise of Israel’s restoration 12 18 I will surely assemble, O Jacob, all of thee; I will surely gather the remnant of Israel; I will put them together as the sheep of Bozrah, as the flock in the midst of their fold: they shall make great noise by reason of the multitude of men. P 13 19 The BREAKER is come up before them: they have broken up, and have passed through the gate, and are gone out by it: and their 20 KING shall pass before them, and the LORD on the head of them. 1:10 The phrase ( Declare ye ) was a proverbial expression for “disaster” (II Sam 1:20). 1:13 Lachish was the city that the Assyrians attacked, before they tried to invade Jerusalem (II Ki 18:13-17). 1:14 Because Micah’s prophecy would come to pass, many would confirm his ability to prophetically predict the future, by sending him presents to his own hometown. 1:15 The word “ he ” here is speaking of the nobility and leadership of these Judean cities. 2:1 The wealthy upper class devised ways of taking ( power of their hand ) what they wanted from the poor. 2:11 Woe to people who prefer preachers ( he shall even be the prophet of this people ) who will tell them only what they want to hear (II Tim 4:1-3). 2:13 The term “ BREAKER ” here is a title for the coming MESSIAH . It means “ one who removes obstacles .”
