OBADIAH 1:21
The promise of Israel’s restoration (Fulfilled - Rev 20:4)
8 1 Shall I not in that day, saith the LORD, even destroy the wise men out of Edom, and understanding out of the mount of Esau? P 9 And thy mighty men, O Teman, 1 shall be dismayed, to the end that every one of the mount of Esau may be cut off by slaughter. P The reason for judgment 10 For thy 2 violence against thy brother Jacob shame 1 shall cover thee, and thou shalt be cut off for ever. P 11 In the day that thou stoodest on the other side, in the day that the 3 strangers carried away captive his forces, and for- eigners entered into his gates, and cast lots upon Jerusalem, 4 even thou wast as one of them. 12 But thou shouldest not have looked on the day of thy brother in the day that he became a stranger; neither shouldest thou have 5 rejoiced over the children of Judah in the day of their destruction; neither shouldest thou have 6 spoken proudly in the day of distress. 13 Thou shouldest not have entered into the gate of my people in the day of their 7 calamity; yea, thou shouldest not have looked on their affliction in the day of their calamity, nor have laid hands on their substance in the day of their calamity; 14 Neither shouldest thou have stood in the crossway, to cut off those of his that did escape; neither shouldest thou have delivered up those of his that did remain in the day of distress. 15 For the 8 DAY OF THE LORD is near upon all the heathen: as thou hast done, 1 it shall be done unto thee: thy reward shall return upon thine own head. P P 16 For as ye have drunk upon my holy mountain, so 1 shall all the heathen drink continually, yea, they shall drink, and they shall swallow down, 8 and they shall be as though they had not been. Different places mentioned in Obadiah Map #258 1:9 Teman was a city, in southern Edom, approximately fifteen miles from Petra. Eliphaz, one of Job’s accusers, was a descendant of Teman (Job 22:1 and Gen 36:8-11). 1:11 Although Jerusalem had been invaded several times before (I Ki 14:25-26, II Chro 21:16-17 and II Ki 14:13-14), Israel’s forces were never carried away by foreigners, until 586 BC (II Ki 25:10-11). 1:15 Officially, the DAY OF THE LORD is an extended period of time that begins with the onset of the Great Tribulation and ends 3½ years later with the personal return of CHRIST ( I Thess 5:2 and Rev 3:3 b & 6:5,6-8 a ).
