HOSEA 6:3

themselves are separated with whores, and they sacrifice with harlots: 1 there- fore the people that doth not understand shall fall. P 15 Though thou, Israel, play the harlot, yet let not Judah offend; and come not ye unto 2 Gilgal, neither go ye up toBeth-aven, nor swear, The LORD liveth. 16 For Israel slideth back as a backsliding heifer: 1 now the LORD will feed them 3 as a lamb in a large place. P 17 Ephraim is joined to idols: 4 let him alone. 18 Their drink is sour: they have com- mitted whoredom continually: her 5 rulers with shame do love, Give ye. 19 1 The 6 wind hath bound her up in her wings, and they shall be ashamed because of their sacrifices. P READ NEXT - II Kings 14:28,29 Hosea 5 1 Hear ye this, O priests; and hearken, ye house of Israel; and give ye ear, O house of the 7 king; 1 for judgment is toward you, because ye have been a snare on Mizpah, and a net spread upon Tabor. P 2 And the revolters are profound to make slaughter, though I have been a rebuker of them all. 3 I know Ephraim, and Israel is not hid from me: for now, O Ephraim, thou com- mittest whoredom, and Israel is defiled. 4 They will not frame their doings to turn unto their God: for the spirit of whore- doms is in the midst of them, and they have not known the LORD. 5 8 And the pride of Israel doth testify to his face: 1 therefore shall Israel and Ephraim fall in their iniquity: 9 Judah also shall fall with them. PP 6 They shall go with their flocks and with their herds to seek the LORD; 10 but they shall not find him ; he hath withdrawn himself from them. The promise of Israel’s fall to Assyria (Fulfilled - II Ki 17:6 & 18:10,11 - 721 BC) (Note - This portion of Hosea’s prophecy took place in the 19th year of King Pekah’s reign and the 11th year of King Ahaz’s reign) Date Written - c. 732 BC/AM 3268

7 They have dealt treacherously against the LORD: for they have begotten strange children: 1 now shall 11 a month devour them with their portions. P 8 Blow ye the 12 cornet in Gibeah, and the trumpet in Ramah: cry aloud at Beth-aven, after thee, O Benjamin. 9 1 Ephraim shall be desolate in the day of rebuke: among the tribes of Israel have I made known that which shall surely be. P 10 The princes of Judah were like them that remove the 13 bound: 9 therefore I will pour out my wrath upon them like water. P 11 Ephraim is oppressed and broken in judgment, because he willingly walked after 14 the commandment. 12 1 Therefore will I be unto Ephraim as a moth, 9 and to the house of Judah as rottenness. PP 13 When Ephraim saw his sickness, and Judah saw his wound, then went 15 Ephraim to the Assyrian, and sent to king 16 Jareb: yet could he not heal you, nor cure you of your wound. 14 1 For I will be unto Ephraim 17 as a lion, 9 and as a young lion to the house of Judah: I, even I, 18 will tear and go away; I will take away, and none shall rescue him . PP 15 I will go and return to my place, 19 till they acknowledge their offence, and seek my face: in their affliction they will seek me early. Hosea 6 Hosea pleads with Israel Date Written - c. 732 BC/AM 3268 1 20 Come, and let us return unto the LORD: for he hath torn, and he will 21 heal us; he hath smitten, and he will bind us up. 2 After two days will he revive us: in the third day he will raise us up, and we shall live in his sight.

4:17 Because of a sinful lifestyle, Ephraim (another name for Northern Israel) was to be “left alone” (abandoned by God). Loneliness is a condition created by our decision to worship everything around us but God and the eternal - II Cor 4:18 ). According to the Bible, there are three ways to combat loneliness: (1) Live for God (Hos 4:17); (2) Live in the Book (Jere 15:15-17); and (3) Live for others (Prov 18:24). 6:1 Hosea reminds Israel that, if she willingly “returns,” it won’t take long for God to change the way He looks at her.
