JEREMIAH 23:18

and scatter the sheep of my pasture! saith the LORD . The promise of Judah/Jerusalem’s fall to Babylon (Fulfilled - II Ki 25 - 586 BC) 2 Therefore thus saith the LORD God of Israel against the 1 pastors that feed my people; Ye have scattered my flock, and driventhemaway,andhavenotvisitedthem: 2 behold, I will visit upon you the evil of your doings, saith the LORD. P The promise of Israel’s restoration during CHRIST’S Kingdom (Fulfilled - Rev 20:4,6) 3 3 And I will 4 gather the remnant of my flock out of all countries whither I have driven them, and will bring them again to their folds; and they shall be fruitful and increase. P 4 3 And I will set up shepherds over them which shall feed them: and they shall fear no more, nor be dismayed, neither shall they be lacking, saith the LORD. P 5 Behold, the days come, saith the LORD , that I will raise unto David a righteous 5 BRANCH , and a 6 KING shall reign and prosper, and shall execute judgment and justice in the earth. PP 6 In 6 HIS days Judah shall be saved, and Israel shall dwell safely: and this is his name whereby he shall be called, THE 7 LORD OUR RIGHTEOUSNESS ( JE HOV AH - TISKENA). P 7 Therefore, behold, 3 the days come, saith the LORD, that they shall nomore say, The LORD liveth, which brought up the childrenof Israel out of the landof Egypt; P 8 But, The LORD liveth, which brought up and which led the seed of the house of Israel out of the north country, and from all countries whither I had driven them; 3 and they shall dwell in their own land. P

I am like a drunken man, and like a man whom wine hath overcome, because of the LORD , and because of the words of HIS HOLINESS . 10 For the land is full of adulterers; for because of swearing the land mourneth; the pleasant places of the wilderness are dried up, and their course is evil, and their force is not right. 11 For both prophet and priest are profane; yea, in my house have I found their 8 wickedness, saith the LORD. 12 Wherefore their way shall be unto them as slippery ways in the 9 darkness: they shall be driven on, and fall therein: 2 for I will bring evil upon them, even the year of their visitation, saith the LORD. P 13 And I have seen folly in the prophets of Samaria; they prophesied in Baal, and caused my people Israel to err. 14 I have seen also in the prophets of Jerusalem an horrible thing: they commit adultery, and walk in lies: they 10 strengthen also the hands of evildoers, that none doth return from his wickedness: they are all of them unto me as 11 Sodom, and the inhabitants thereof as Gomorrah. 15 Therefore thus saith the LORD OF HOSTS concerning the prophets; 2 Behold, I will feed themwith wormwood, andmake them drink the water of gall: for from the prophets of Jerusalem is profaneness gone forth into all the land. P 16 Thus saith the LORD OF HOSTS , Hearkennot unto thewords of the prophets that prophesy unto you: they make you vain: they speak a vision of their own heart, and not out of the mouth of the LORD. 17 They say still unto them that despise me, The LORD hath said, Ye shall have peace; and they say unto every one that walketh after the imagination of his own heart, No evil shall come upon you.

1. Note - The “ pastors ” here are not the preachers/ prophets. Jeremiah will address the prophets later on (vs 9-40). The “ pastors ” here are the ruling politicians, the ones responsible for the laws of the land ( Jere 2:8 ). 2. Fulfilled - II Ki 25 (Fall of Judah) 3. Fulfilled - Rev 20:4 (Israel’s Restoration) 4. Ezk 34:13 5. Fulfilled - Jn 10:10 (New Life in Christ) (See - Isa 4:2 & Jere 33:15 & Zech 3:8 & 6:12) 6. Fulfilled - Rev 20:4,6 (Christ’s Kingdom) (See - Jere 51:57 & Mt 2:1-2) 7. “ Jehovah ” Note - In this case Jehovah is referring to God the Son - Rom 3:21-26.

8. Ezk 8:16 9. Prov 4:19 10. Ezk 13:22 11. Gen 18:20

12. Job 15:8 & Rom 11:34 & I Cor 2:16 13. “ JE HOV AH ” Note - In this case JE HOV AH is referring to the entire Triune Godhead.

Jeremiah speaks for the LORD here - Woe to the prophets and the priests 18 For who hath stood in the 12 counsel of the 13 LO R D , and hath perceived and heard his word? who hath marked his word, and heard it? 23:4 This word ( shepherds ) is the same Hebrew word used for “pastors” in verses 1 and 2. Thus, they are the ruling politicians of the future ( Rev 20:4b ). 23:7-8 The oldest religious holiday still celebrated today is the Jewish Passover ( which brought up the children of Israel out of the land of Egypt – vs 7). Regardless of whether the Jew is reformed or orthodox, he remembers the Passover. Why? Because it is the celebration of the miraculous deliverance of a people becoming a nation (Exo 12:14-17,41-51). The Passover has been celebrated by the Jews for 3,500 years (from 1487 BC – AD 2012). Nevertheless, there is coming a day (in the not so far future) that the Jews will forget the old deliverance (Passover) and begin to observe a new deliverance –one that will deliver them from the four corners of the earth ( which brought up and which led the seed of the house of Israel out of the north country – vs 8) and make them the ruling nation of the world ( and they shall dwell in their own land ). Point being: The best is yet to come (Mt 5:1-12)! Jesus never promised us the good life here ( Mt 10:16a ); He promised us the good life there (in the next life). 9 Mine heart within me is broken be- cause of the prophets; all my bones shake;
