truth is fallen in the street, and 1 equity cannot enter. 15 Yea, truth faileth; and he that departeth fromevilmakethhimself a prey: and the LORD saw it, and it displeased him that there was no judgment. The promise of CHRIST’S First Coming (Fulfilled - Lk 2:7,11 - 1 BC) 16 And he saw that there was noman, and wondered that there was no intercessor: therefore his arm brought 2 SALVATION unto him; and his righteousness, it sustained him. P The promise of Wrath when CHRIST returns ; of a Kingdom where HE will rule (Fulfilled - Rev 19:11-21 & 20:4,6) 17 3 For he put on 4 righteousness as a breastplate, and an helmet of salvation upon his head; and he put on the garments of vengeance for clothing, and was clad with zeal as a cloke. P 18 3 According to their deeds, accordingly he will repay, fury to his adversaries, recompence to his enemies; to the islands he will repay recompence. P 19 3 So shall they fear the name of the L OR D from the west, 5 and his glory from the rising of the sun. When the enemy shall come in like a flood, the SPIRIT OF THE LORD shall lift up a standard against him. PP 20 And 6 the 7 REDEEMER 3 shall come to Zion, and unto them that turn from transgression in Jacob, saith the LORD . 1 10 Arise, shine; 9 for thy light is come and the glory of the 11 LORD is risen upon thee. P 2 For, behold, the darkness shall cover the earth, and gross darkness the people: 9 but the LORD shall arise upon thee, and his glory shall be seen upon thee. P 3 9 And the Gentiles shall come to thy 12 LIGHT , and kings to the brightness of thy rising. P 4 9 Lift up thine eyes round about, and see: all they gather themselves togeth- er, they come to thee: thy sons shall come from far, and thy daughters shall be nursed at thy side. P 5 9 Then thou shalt see, and flow together, and thine heart shall fear, and be enlarged; because the abundance of the sea shall be converted unto thee, the forces of the Gentiles shall come unto thee. P 6 9 The multitude of camels shall cover thee, the dromedaries of Midian and Ephah; all they from Sheba shall come: they shall bring gold and incense; and they shall shew forth the praises of the LORD. P 7 9 All the flocks of Kedar shall be gathered together unto thee, the rams of Nebaioth shall minister unto thee: they shall come up with acceptance on mine altar, and I will glorify the house of my glory. P 8 9 Who are these that fly as a cloud, and as the doves to their 13 windows? P
9 9 Surely the isles shall wait for me, and the ships of Tarshish first, to bring thy sons from far, their silver and their gold with them, unto the name of the LORD thy God, 59:16 Because God could find no one to stand and intercede between a sinful people and His impending judgment, He provided the salvation Himself ( Gen 22:8 a ), through “ his arm ” (power) and “ his righteousness” (Rom 3:20-26). 59:21 God ( As for me ) reminds Israel that in spite of her rebellion He would extend His grace towards her because of His covenant (promise – Jere 31:31 ). Thank God that God always keeps His Word ( Psa 138:2 ). 60:1 The tone now shifts from exposing the sins of God’s people (Isaiah 59) to describing the future glory of God’s city (Jerusalem). Zion, another name for the Holy City, is called to “awake” ( Arise ) to the glory that is about to engulf her. The light (glory) that is about to surround her during the Millennium comes directly from CHRIST ( LORD ). Paul quotes this verse in Ephesians 5:14 and substitutes the name CHRIST for Jehovah ( LORD ), knowing they are one and the same. Like Abraham (Jn 8:56-59) and Moses (Heb 11:24-26) before him, Isaiah knew all about the coming MESSIAH ( CHRIST – Jn 1:41 & 4:25) and that He would be God in flesh when He came ( Mic 5:2 and Phil 2:6b ). NOTE – Isaiah is speaking here for GOD THE FATHER (vs 7,9,10,13,15,16,17,21,22), who happens to be speaking about CHRIST (vs 1-3,6,9,14,19,20). 60:2 The “ gross darkness ” here is probably speaking about the Seven-Year Tribulation Period (Daniel’s Seventieth Week – Dan 9:27), which takes place right before the Second Coming of Christ and the setting up of Christ’s Millennial Kingdom.
