ISAIAH 47:10

ISAIAH 48:14

1106

10 For thou hast trusted in thy wicked- ness: thou hast said, None seeth me. Thy wisdom and thy knowledge, it hath per- verted thee; and thou hast said in thine heart, I am, and none else beside me. 11 1 Therefore shall evil come upon thee; thou shalt not know from whence it riseth: andmischief shall fall upon thee; thou shalt not be able to put if off: and desolation shall come upon thee suddenly, which thou shalt not know. P 12 Stand now with thine enchantments, and with the multitude of thy sorcer- ies, wherein thou hast laboured from thy youth; if so be thou shalt be able to profit, if so be thou mayest prevail. 13 Thou art wearied in the multitude of thy counsels. Let now the 2 astrologers, the stargazers, the monthly prognosticators, stand up, and save thee 1 from these things that shall come upon thee. P 14 1 Behold, they shall be as stubble; the fire shall burn them; they shall not deliver themselves from the power of the flame: there shall not be a coal to warm at, nor fire to sit before it. P 15 1 Thus shall they be unto thee with whom thou hast laboured, even thy merchants, from thy youth: they shall wander every one to his quarter; none shall save thee. P Isaiah 48 1 Hear ye this, O house of Jacob, which are called by the name of Israel, and are come forth out of the waters of Judah, which swear by the name of the LORD, and make mention of the God of Israel, but not in truth, nor in righteousness. 2 For they call themselves of the holy city, and stay themselves upon the GOD OF ISRAEL ;The 3 LORDOFHOSTS is his name. 3 4 I have declared the 5 former things from the beginning; and they went forth out of my mouth, and I shewed them; I God reminds Israel of His promises (Note - This portion of Isaiah’s prophecy took place in the 27th year of King Hezekiah’s reign) Date Written - c. 700 BC/AM 3300

did them suddenly, and they came to pass. 4 Because I knew that thou art obstinate, and thy neck is an iron sinew, and thy brow brass; 5 I have even from the beginning declared it to thee; before it came to pass I shewed it thee: lest thou shouldest say, Mine idol hath done them, and my graven image, and my molten image, hath commanded them. 6 Thou hast heard, see all this; and will not ye declare it? I have shewed thee 6 new things from this time, even hidden things, and thou didst not know them. 7 They are created now, and not from the beginning; even before the day when thou heardest them not; lest thou shouldest say, Behold, I knew them. 8 Yea, thou heardest not; yea, thou knewest not; yea, from that time that thine ear was not opened: for I knew that thou wouldest deal very treacherously, and wast called a transgressor from the womb. 9 For MY name’s sake will I defer mine anger, and for MY praise will I refrain for thee, that I cut thee not off. 10 Behold, I have refined thee, but not 7 with silver; I have chosen thee in the 8 furnace of affliction. 11 For mine own sake, even for mine own sake, will I do it: for how should my name be polluted? and I will not give 9 MY glory unto another. 12 Hearken unto me, O Jacob and Israel, my called; I am he; 10 I am the first, I also am the last. 13 11 MINE hand also hath laid the foun- dation of the earth, and my right hand hath spanned the heavens: when I call unto them, they stand up together. 14 All ye, assemble yourselves, and hear; which among them hath declared these things? The 12 LO R D [ TR INI TY ] hath loved 13 him: he will do his pleasure on Babylon, and his arm shall be on the Chaldeans. PP 48:1 “ Hear ye this ” means that Isaiah is speaking for the LORD here. This is why the “words” of CHRIST are not in red within the forty-eighth chapter of Isaiah ( Zech 6:12a and Mal 1:1a ). 48:14 CHRIST here ( I - vs 3) is referring to the entire Triune Godhead ( Isa 51:1b ). As is so often the case, one member of the Triune Godhead will make reference ( Mt 27:46 ) to one or the other persons within the Trinity ( Gen 9:8,16 & 16:7,11 & 18:1,13- 14 & 21:12,17 & 22:1,12 & 32:24,28 & 35:1 , Isa 60:1,14,19 and Acts 10:3-4 ), or even to both ( Gen 3:22 & 11:6-7, Isa 6:8 and 48:16 ). NOTE – Although the word “trinity” does not appear in Scripture, the word “Godhead” does ( Rom 1:20a , Acts 17:29 and Colo 2:9), and the idea and doctrine are its foundation and are evident throughout the entire Scriptures ( Gen 1:26a & 3:22 & 11:7, Deut 6:4 , Isa 6:8 & 48:16, Ezk 3:24 and Mt 28:19c ).
