to err, and 1 destroy the way of thy paths. P 13 The LORD standeth up to 10 plead, 1 and standeth to judge the people. P 14 1 The LORD will enter into judgment with the ancients of his people, and the princes thereof: for ye have eaten up the vineyard; the spoil of the poor is in your houses. P 15 What mean ye that ye 11 beat my people to pieces, and grind the faces of the poor? saith the LORD GOD OF HOSTS. The sinful women of Jerusalem 16 Moreover the LORD saith, Because the daughters of Zion are haughty, and walk with stretched forth necks and wan- ton eyes, walking and mincing as they go, and making a tinkling with their feet: 17 1 Therefore the LORD will smite with a scab the crown of the head of the daugh- ters of Zion, and the LORD will discover their secret parts. P 18 1 In that day the Lord will take away the bravery of their tinkling ornaments about their feet, and their cauls, and their round tires like the moon, P 19 1 The chains, and the bracelets, and the mufflers, P 20 1 The bonnets, and the ornaments of the legs, and the headbands, and the tablets, and the earrings, P 21 1 The rings, and nose jewels, P 22 1 The changeable suits of apparel, and the mantles, and the 12 wimples, and the 13 crisping pins, P 23 1 The 14 glasses, and the fine linen, and the hoods, and the vails. P

2 1 The 2 mighty man, and the man of war, the judge, and the prophet, and the pru- dent, and the ancient, P 3 1 The captain of fifty, and the honour- able man, and the counsellor, and the cun- ning artificer, and the eloquent orator. 4 1 And I will give children to be their princes, and 3 babes shall rule over them. P 5 1 And the people shall be oppressed, every one by another, and every one by his neighbour: the child shall behave himself proudly against the ancient, and the base against the honourable. P 6 1 When a man shall take hold of his brother of the house of his father, saying, Thou hast clothing, be thou our ruler, and let this ruin be under thy hand: P 7 1 In that day shall he swear, saying, I will not be an healer; for in my house is neither bread nor clothing: make me not a ruler of the people. P 8 1 For 4 Jerusalem is ruined, and Judah is fallen: because their tongue and their doings are against the LORD, to provoke the eyes of his glory. P 9 The shew of their countenance doth witness against them; and they declare their sin as 5 Sodom, they hide it not. 1 Woe unto their soul! for they have rewarded evil against themselves. P 10 1 Say ye to the righteous, 6 that it shall be 7 well with him: for they shall eat the 8 fruit of their doings. P 11 1 Woe unto the wicked! 9 it shall be ill with him: for the reward of his hands shall be given him. P 12 As for my people, children are their oppressors, and women rule over them. O my people, they which lead thee cause thee

3:4 Because Judea’s tongue and their doings were against the Lord (vs 8); God would strip them of their leadership, allowing competent leadership to be replaced by incompetent leadership ( children and babes ). The greatest insult to any nation is when it is forced to rely on its children to run its affairs (vs 12). 3:8 The entire chapter of Isaiah 3 is summed up in this one verse: For Jerusalem is ruined, and Judah is fallen … According to Isaiah, the process that would eventually lead to the fall of Judah and Jerusalem 162 years later in 586 BC was already in motion. In other words, God considered it already done, as if this future event were already a fact. NOTE - Although seemingly infinite in patience with our failure to recognize His sovereignty over our humanity, God will eventually step in and reap where we have sown. Who He is demands it. 3:9 a THE ADAGE IS TRUE: W hat’s on our face is usually what’s in our heart 3:9 b No one ever wants to pay them self in “ evil ,” but they do whenever they go against the Word of God. 3:10 Here is the only hope ( it shall be well ) we have the day our country fails as a nation –God promises protection to those who “want what’s right” ( Acts 10:35 ). 3:16 Isaiah here ( Moreover ) begins his denunciation against the women of Judea who were more concerned with how they looked on the outside than how they looked on the inside . In other words, what was on their bodies was more important to them than what was in their hearts. NOTE – It’s not what we put in our bodies (Mt 15:10-11,15-20 and Acts 10:9-16) or even on our bodies (Mt 6:25-33) that defile our bodies, but what we put in our hearts (our minds – Prov 23:7, Mt 12:34-37 and Lk 6:45 & 24:38). We would be wise to guard our minds with all our heart (Rom 7:25 & 8:5-8 & 12:1-2, II Cor 4:16, Eph 4:22-24 and Colo 3:9-10).
