Chapter Thirteen

The Office

“ Z ach!” Mr. Fessmyer called out across the noisy press office, seeing me walk in. “Glad to have you back safe and sound, Son.” His old familiar voice was comforting, and a few eyes were on me like I had returned from a war or something. “Glad to be back, Sir,” I responded, “and good to s ee you, too. Did you miss me, Sir?” “I wouldn’t go that far, Zach, but, yes, I did!” It was good to be back in the office, with a feeling of home. I followed Mr. Fessmyer back to his office with my report in hand and said, “I believe you're going to like it, Sir.” “I’d better, Son, I spent a lot of money on you!” He laughed and said, “Have you called Delores?” “I texted her when I landed, but I’ll call her when I get to my desk,” I replied. “You do that, Son, she’s a good girl.” “Boss, “I stammered, “one more thing. I've got to go back.” “What are you talking about, Kid?” he asked. “I saw something,” I said. “You saw something! What, like a swamp monster or something?” he joked. “No. I saw a massive structure on an inland lake. I got a few pics here. Let me show you,” I said. I positioned the pictures in sequence and said, “I snapped these as we were turning the boat around. I had them magnified. They are a little blurry, but there is nothing like this anywhere in the area. This is unique. I have no idea what it is or how much is underwater, but I guess at least one story.
