The Spiritual Song - Exploring Prophetic Worship by Mike Herron

speak to all kinds of people.

Scripture songs - Verses from the Bible have such power and strength. They can be arranged to fit the meter of the song: ‘I take joy in doing your will, my God ‘could be sung as ‘I take joy in doing your will, doing your will my God.’ (Ps 40:8) Rhyming songs - Rhyme is the most definitive mark of western lyrics and poetry. It is beautiful when it happens naturally but the singer should not force a prophetic song into a rhyming mold. Clarity of thought and sincerity of expression is the most important factor. The words need to fit as closely as possible the rhythmic meter of the song so they are not compacted into a small space and become unintelligible. Prepared songs - The prophetic song can be created and inspired before the public meeting. The singer/musician can share it at the appropriate time. Established melody, new words - This is a way of taking small steps into the prophetic song, singing your own words to an already progressing melody. Verse/Chorus songs - Once a chorus has been established and picked up by the worshipers, singers can solo verses adding to the thoughts being expressed by the Holy Spirit.
