The Spiritual Song - Exploring Prophetic Worship by Mike Herron
The roar of a great fire
‘In front of the throne were seven torches with burning flames.’ (Rev 4:5)
The inference can be made that worship is meant to have the intensity of a great fire. Those who have experienced the sound of a forest fire describe it as a continuous explosion. The corporate spiritual song is meant to be a never-ending furnace of praise to the Lord.
The beating of wings
‘Each of these living beings had six wings, and their wings were covered all over with eyes, inside and ou t.’ (Rev 4:6)
These living beings are the worship leaders of heaven who continually sing ‘Holy, holy, holy is the Lord…’ Ezekiel saw the same living beings and described the sound of th eir wings, ‘ As they flew, their wings sounded to me like waves crashing against the shore…’ (Ezek 1:24) The sound of a multitude of large winged birds such as wild geese taking off provides for us a small glimpse into this rush of wings that is happening in the atmosphere of worship. The corporate spiritual song should fill all of the dimensions of the sound spectrum and provide spiritual lift for the congregation.
