Spirit. The accurate prophetic ministry convinces them of the validity of the Holy Spirit’s activity. There i s a vast segment of the church today who have not experienced the dimension of prophecy or prophetic song. ‘Well, my brothers and sisters, let’s summarize. When you meet together, one will sing, (including prophetic song) another will teach, another will tell some special revelation God has given, one will speak in tongues, and another will interpet what is said. But everything that is done must stre ngthen all of you.’ (14:26) Paul is not giving us a formula for a New Testament order of service or an exhaustive list of acceptable gifts. He is letting us know of what kind of intelligible verbal gifts should be in operation to strengthen and encourage the assembly. ‘Since the latter three (revelation, tongues, interpretation) are Spirit-inspired utterances, and therefore spontaneous, it is likely that the first two (sing, teach) are to be understood in that way as well, although that is not certain.’ 30 If we put this all together, we see the allowance for spiritual songs in the charismatic gathering. ‘Let two or three people prophesy, and let the others evaluate what is said.
