The Spiritual Song - Exploring Prophetic Worship by Mike Herron

Centuries later o ne of Asaph’ s descendants prophesied victory during the reign of Jehoshaphat: “ …the Spirit of the Lord came upon one of the men standing there. His name was Jahaziel… a descendant of Asaph. He said…Do not be afraid! Don’t be discouraged by this mighty army, for the battle is not yours, but the God’s.’” (2 Chron. 20:14, 15) The same prophetic gift of the Holy Spirit is available to the musicians today! ‘As for Jeduthun, from his sons: …six in all, under the supervision of their father Jeduthun, who prophesied, using the harp in thanking and praising the L ORD . ’ (1 Chron 25:3) While Asaph specialized in prophesying directly under the King’s orders with his music, Jeduthun and his sons were skillful in thanking and praising the Lord in a prophetic way. Gratefulness is the sweetest ingredient of praise. This direction of the prophetic song was from ‘man towards God’. His name meant ‘worship, praise and gi ve thanks by extending of the hands’. He was also known by the shortened form of his name, ‘Ethan.’ Along with Aspah and Heman h e was also called a ‘seer’ in 2 Chron 35:15. JEDUTHUN- (ETHAN)

HEMAN- (DESCENDANTS OF KORAH)

‘ All these were sons of Heman the king’s seer. They were given him through the promises of God to exalt him. God
