‘ David, together with the commanders of the army, set apart some of the sons of Asaph, Heman and Jeduthun for the ministry of prophesying, accompanied by harps, lyres and cymbals. Here is the list of the men who performed this service: (1 Chron 25:1) The King and the commanders of the army considered the ministry of prophecy and music so important that they set aside eligible warriors for this purpose. The spiritual benefit of their ministry was greater than the physical contribution they could have made as fighters. Their main emphasis was to ‘prophesy’, Hebrew ‘Nibba’ prophesy under influence of divine spirit: in the ecstatic state, with song and music . 19 The Tabernacle of David and the following Temple of Solomon that gave birth to the Book of Psalms were founded on the ministry of these Levitical singers. David worked closely with Asaph, Jeduthun and Heman to arrange the worship for the nation on Mount Zion in Jerusalem. The New Testament endorsement of the singing Psalms (Col. 3:16, Eph. 5:18, 19) includes the context in which the psalms were created and sung, ie. musicians who are ministering with prophetic inspiration.

All these men were under the supervision of their father for the music of the temple of the L ORD , with cymbals, lyres and
