The Spiritual Song - Exploring Prophetic Worship by Mike Herron

especially true of the worship leaders of the nation of Israel as they were called to prophecy with music and instruments. As David worshiped privately and among the musicians of the Tabernacle, he sang these prophetic songs about the coming Messiah:  Psalm 2- He saw Jesus as the Messiah- ‘the rulers plot together against the Lord and against his Messiah (anointed one).’ ( 2) He heard the Father declare Jesus to be King: ‘F or the Lord declares, “I have placed my chosen king on the throne in Zion…’ ( 6) He heard Jesus repeat what the Father said to him: ‘The Lord said to me, “You are my son. Today I have become your Father.”’ (7)  Psalm 8- David saw the incarnation, God becoming the Son of Man- ‘what is man that you should think of him, the son of man that you should care for him?’ (8:4)

Psalm 16- David saw the coming resurrection of the Messiah. Both Peter and Paul quote this psalm in their sermons to prove that Jesus was resurrected from the dead: ‘No wonder my heart is glad, and I rejoice. My body rests in safety. For you will not leave my soul among the dead or allow your Holy One to rot in the grave.’ (9,10)
