The Need for Apostolic Networks

Let me add one more important thought. As the church and

teaching institutions go through reformation, so must the

apostolic thinking and leadership of the church. Scripture is

clear that the apostolic gift is primary in establishing churches

and their leadership (Eph. 2:20). Therefore, it is the apostolic

that must lead in this reformation.

What dp I mean by apostolic leadership? I am not necessarily

referring to denominational leadership, or a CEO model of

leading churches from a distant office. Such leaders may

indeed be apostolic. But the kind of apostolic leaders that will

be needed must be on the field, with their hands deep in the

harvest. Like the early church, new apostolic leadership must

arise out of the harvest movement — with a deep

understanding of what God is doing. We must return to the New

Testament model of the mobile and in-touch apostolic team.

Apostles like Paul, Peter, and Timothy, Titus and others did not

just start churches, but developed apostolic teams to sustain

these young churches, keeping them focused on reaching their

cities and nations. These apostolic teams mentored young

church leaders by writing to them, praying for them by name,

and visiting them. They poured themselves out in serving and

developing the churches. And above all, they recruited and
