The writer of Hebrews 12 exhorts us:
And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him He endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God (Hebrews 12:1-2).
Jesus became a model of audacious, victorious faith through
the enabling of the Spirit of God.
As the first-century Church is commissioned and obeys its call,
we see the immediate audacious faith of His empowered
people. We find God touching the whole city of Jerusalem with
the outpouring of the Holy Spirit, drawing a crowd of thousands.
Cowardly Peter is transformed into a bold preacher, with many
coming to faith in Christ. The city was stunned with the love and
miraculous life these early believers shared with each other. As
the church grew we find there was such power in it and in the
apostles that people put their sick out on the streets so that the
apostles ’ shadows would fall across them and heal them (Acts
5:15).
Next we find the church's most dangerous human adversary,
Saul of Tarsus, confronted by a theophany of Jesus knocking
