The Four Servant Songs

T h H KHDUW RI WKH /25'·6 6DOYDWLRQ and restoration is found in the Consolation Section (Chapters 40-55) ´ZKLFK includes, as its most distinctive feature , the four Servant Songs µ (emphasis added). 7 7KH WKHPH RI ´6HUYDQWµ UXQV WKURXJKRXW Isaiah, but we must be discriminating in our identification of who WKH 6HUYDQW LV 6RPHWLPHV ´6HUYDQWµ ZLOO EH D QDWLRQD l representation of Israel; also God raised up Cyrus of Persia as His

servant. 8 7KH IRXU ´6HUYDQW 6RQJV µ KRZHYHU ZRQGHUIXOO\ DQG PHDQLQJIXOO\ IRFXV RQ -HVXV WKH Messiah, the Anointed One, the One upon Whom the Holy Spirit abides. 7KHVH ´6HUYDQW 6RQJVµ have been distinguished by an introduction of the LORD Himself, or the Servant speaking Himself or described by others. Another oracle found in Isaiah 61:1-4, which is not usually included, but certainly always considered, will be noted as a fifth entry.
