The MAJOR & MINOR Prophets - The 16 Writing Prophets Of The Hebrew Canon
A final week, or seven years, finishes out the prophecy (Daniel 9:27). ´ Seven years µ ² now where does that fit in? 36 Two key thoughts will guide us. He shall confirm a covenant with many for one week. Verse 27 is the pivotal verse of the entire prophecy, with the basic interpretation dependent on who he refers to! 7KHUH DUH RQO\ WZR UHDO FKRLFHV ´0HVVLDK WKH 3ULQFHµ YHUVH DQG 3ULQFH 7LWXV YHUVH 26). The use of a pronoun like he implies that the subject has already been identified. Pronouns need a referent! Some suggest that the mysterious he is the Antichrist of the last days. This interpretation strains the sentence structure and is hardly possible, since there has been no previous mention of the Antichrist throughout the prophecy! We must make a choice between Jesus Christ and Prince Titus. Notice the clarity of the verse when he is interpreted as the Messiah:
