APPENDIX: STUDY QUESTIONS, SET 1

1. Sections 11-23

• Lk 2:21: When did God first command circumcision?

• Lk. 2:24: Did Jesus grow up in a poor, middle class, or rich family, from the description of this sacrifice?

• The star led the magi to Jerusalem; what led them to Bethlehem?

• Lk. 2:41-52: Do you think Jesus in any way violated the 5th commandment in regard to honoring his earthly parents? (Keep in mind the fact that according to Jewish tradition, a child was not accountable to the Law until he was 13 years old.)

2. Sections 24-36

• In Lk. 3:3 we read that John preached the baptism of repentance for the "remission of sins." Heb. 9:22, however, says that without the shedding of blood there is no remission. John's baptism did in fact remit sins, but how did it satisfy Heb. 9:22?

• Mt. 4:6: What was wrong with the verse that Satan quoted to Jesus?

• Section 32: Did Jesus produce a wine that was able to intoxicate?

• Jn. 3:5: What does "being born of water" refer to?

3. Sections 37-50

• Jn. 4:2: Why didn't Jesus baptize anyone, Himself?

• Lk. 4:22: The people of Nazareth seemed to initially have a positive attitude toward Jesus, but then they suddenly turned against him. Explain what caused them to suddenly reject Him.

• Mk. 1:24: How did the demon know who Jesus really was?

• Mk. 1:38: What can we learn from Jesus' response to Simon's request?

4. Sections 51-62

• Lk. 5:1-11: Carefully read this account from the King James Version and answer the following question: "Did Peter do all that Jesus told him to do?" Explain.

Lk. 5:17-26: What saved the paralytic?

• How does Jesus show from the Old Testament that it was sometimes legal to break the Sabbath?

• In light of the Sabbath law, did Jesus break the Old Testament law? Explain.

5. Sections 63-72

• Mt. 5:29: Does Jesus advocate that we cut off our hand or pluck out our eye? Explain what He was trying to say.

• Mt. 6:9-13: In fulfilling the Lord's prayer, how often should we ask to be forgiven of sin?

• Mt. 7:3-5: Identify the "speck" and the "log." What do they each represent in actual events?
