The Life of Christ
Jesus gave Peter the go ahead.
•
Peter would never have experienced this moment, had he not suggested the idea; Jesus did not initiate this adventure.
• Some of our greatest encounters with God originate from our own imagination and request.
Many things happen in our lives because we put them before the Lord; it’s our idea. God simply confirms or denies it.
• Caleb had an idea to take for his inheritance a piece of ground still infested with giants; he brought that up to Joshua by saying, “It may be that the Lord will be with me, and I shall be able to drive them out as the LORD said” (Josh. 14:12). And sure enough, when it came time for this 85-year- old warrior to fight the giants, the LORD helped him drive them out (Josh. 15:14). • In 1 Sam. 14, Jonathan had a bold idea for he and his armor bearer to take out an entire Philistine garrison by themselves. They put a simple fleece before the Lord, and the Lord gave them the go ahead according to the fleece; Jonathan and his armor took out 20 men that day.
• Jonathan’s bold idea drew the Lord into what he was doing.
• It was David’s idea to build God a temple, and God helped Solomon to bring it to pass.
• God is just waiting for His people to come up with bold ideas that He can join them in.
• It’s up to us to come up with the idea, and then ask God to join us in those plans.
Our bold ideas are what also draw the Lord into helping us fulfill our dreams!
• Some of our greatest encounters with God originate from our own imagination and request.
• We present it to the Lord and then wait for His confirmation.
Peter caught hold of a wind of potential grace blowing in his direction.
• Any of the disciples could have caught the same heavenly wind had they asked the same question.
Mt. 14:30 But seeing the wind he became afraid, and beginning to sink, he cried out, saying, “Lord, save me!”
The moment Peter’s gaze broke off Jesus, the miracle grace disengaged.
• Whenever we walk on miracle ground, the one requirement is to keep our mind fixed upon the Lord at all times — even when logic and reason scream out against us!
• Science and logic say that humans can’t walk on water!
Humans are so heavy that the force of gravity overcomes the so-called “surface tension of water,” making us sink. But for tiny creatures, surface tension — the force created when water molecules cling together — becomes dominant and allows leaves to float and insects to walk effortlessly over ponds and other liquid bodies (Google).
The moment we focus upon any “reasoning contrary to a miracle,” like Peter, down we go.
• When Israel sent spies into the land, it was for the purpose of determining attack routes. While there, when they saw the giants and walled cities, they dropped their focus off God’s command telling them to go and possess the land (Deut. 1:21-22).
