there was ever a person that appeared to be a hopeless case, it was Ronnie!
At the time, we were living in the Whitley Heights area of Hollywood in the lower Hollywood Hills. The 101 Freeway ran right beside the house. We rented the house with HGRS and other staff members lived in the house with our family (that’s another story!) We had a rule that we would not bring homeless people or any street people to the house. Our house was to be a place of refuge for our family and the staff. Working in a street ministry in Hollywood is no easy task. We had taken in teen prostitutes a few times into our home and decided it would not be a good idea to continue taking people in when we moved to the staff house. I was making dinner for our family and the others living in the house. I’m known to cook way too much food. There is always room for one more, right? Bobby called me about an hour before dinner. Later I found out that he was trying to figure out what to do with Ronnie. He had spent the day with him counseling him and praying with him. Now, what? Was Ronnie supposed to just go back to his spot under the freeway and go to sleep? Was he going to go dig through garbage bins looking for food for his dinner? I think Bobby almost dropped the phone when I asked him what Ronnie was doing for dinner. I told him that we had plenty of food for Ronnie to join us for dinner. When Ronnie came into the house Bobby and some of the guys, probably David Jenkins, Robroy Ranger, or Ray Adamyk, got some clothes together for Ronnie and had him take a shower and put on clean clothes.
