I knew God had used my friend Frank to put us together with the Deita family and King Jesus Christian Fellowship. Now, God was about to put an amazing, Spirit-led team together to take Jesus to the Philippines. The first phone call I got wanting to go to the Philippines with me was Pastor Kelly Slater. He and his wife, Mary, Pastored The Lighthouse church in Santa Rosa, CA. This great church truly was a Lighthouse for Jesus in Northern California. Pastor Kelly was perfect for our team because along with being a great pastor, he also served the Santa Rosa Fire Department as a Firefighter Engineer for 28 years. We needed his experience and wisdom as a Pastor and a seasoned firefighter. My Brother in Arms, Bro. Bill Henderson joined up with us and he had brought Garth Hickey and Roy Cypher to the team. Our long-time friend Brian Bennet, also from Santa Rosa, joined our Philippines Typhoon Haiyan outreach team. We were good to GO! As Gerson and I communicated while he was home in the Philippines and I was still in Los Angeles, we put together a plan of how best to serve Jesus and help the people in desperate need there. I could sense Gerson’s heart for the Lord and his burning desire to help people and evangelize the area. I detected he had a real sense of urgency. Typhoon Haiyan’s most serious damage was inflicted in the Philippines where it devastated Tacloban City on the northeastern tip of Leyte Island.
