The Green Bar of Soap

T he way my morning started off made it really hard

to praise the Lord!

I had just finished off a plate of homemade pancakes and was headed for the shower when my daughter, Amy, knocked on our apartment door. She walked in and handed me a shutoff notice from the Department of Water and Power. Our electricity was cut off! I didn’t really have anything electrical going, so I didn’t know it until she handed me the notice that had been taped to our door. I quickly realized all the power was off. I ran to the phone and got the electric company on the line. I told them I had paid the bill in their drop box and there must be some mistake. Unfortunately, the mistake was mine. I had paid the wrong amount and they had come out and turned my electricity off. I am sorry to say, praising the Lord was not my first thought. I got in the car, drove down to the office and paid the balance owed. The nice lady said, “Your power should be back on sometime today.” The emphasis was on “sometime.” I thought, “Great! I have a mountain of ministry work and paperwork to do… letters to answer… people to fax and email… I have so many important things to do for Jesus.” I returned to our apartment in Hollywood (where we temporarily had our Streetwise Ministry office in our living room) and I basically went nuts. I tried to work, but we were experiencing a record-breaking heatwave, and I
