Street Stories - A Ringside Seat To Over 4 Decades Of Taking Jesus To The Streets Of The World

In usual Bobby fashion, he said, “Dot, take my picture.” He thinks we need pictures of everything we do, and he wants to be right in the center of the photo op, directing every moment! Our girls used to call him “Director”. One year, for Christmas, one of our girls presented Bobby with a t-shirt with big letters emblazoned upon it that said DIRECTOR. I, on the other hand, try as hard as I can to not be in front of the camera. Bobby was standing behind the church’s pulpit at that moment. Standing in his best “preacher pose” he told me he wanted me to take his picture there because he was going to preach there someday. I was astonished to hear him say that. We had planned to go to South Africa just one time. We were going to tie up the loose ends of Sondra’s ministry there in South Africa and make sure that her friends all knew how much she had loved them and how they had impacted her life and ministry. That was all, just one trip to South Africa. He had just confirmed what I was already feeling in my heart. We would be returning to South Africa. William dropped us at the hotel that night and we made plans to meet for breakfast and he would then take us back to OR Tambo Airport in Johannesburg. We had no idea what would happen next. Bobby and I went to our hotel room and discussed the most amazing day we had just experienced. We were moved. Our hearts would never be the same. We loved all the people we had met in South Africa. We knew that this trip would not be the only time we would visit South Africa. God was calling us to build relationships in South Africa. He was calling us to a work in the country I had refused to go to many times. We had no idea how much our lives would change from that moment forward.
