Street Stories - A Ringside Seat To Over 4 Decades Of Taking Jesus To The Streets Of The World
was possibly going a little overboard with his dramatic predictions. Dot mentioned to me that she was going to talk to him about it later to ask him why his word from the Lord was so strong.
The date of this Sunday morning? September 9 th ,
2001.
After church, Dot and I went to her mother Maxine’s house for lunch. The entire family referred to her as Granny , and she was the best cook ever. Between helpings of yummy homemade mashed potatoes and gravy and perfectly cooked brisket, we were still talking about the morning’s message. Dot and I were somewhat perplexed and felt a heaviness. W.V. and Brenda had an early plane to catch out of Dallas Love Field Airport the following Tuesday morning, September 11 th , 2001. They were flying to Alabama to hold a week-long revival meeting at a local church in Huntsville. We told them we would drive them to the airport and drop them off so they could catch their plane and we would keep their car until they returned. That Tuesday morning turned out to be unforgettable. It was a day forever etched in our memories. When we left the house, W.V. was driving and as usual, they were running late to get to the airport. It was early in the morning, way too early for a lot of extra talk and chattering in the car. This fact did not seem to deter W.V. from uttering with his booming, playful voice, “911. 911. Emergency Day !” Again, as we headed toward the airport, he said loudly, “911.911. Emergency Day! ”
