Street Stories - A Ringside Seat To Over 4 Decades Of Taking Jesus To The Streets Of The World

One day Joseph went into a park on Skid Row as he had done many times before. Joseph was attacked by a man wielding a baseball bat! The man told him that he was the wrong color to be in that park. The man took that baseball bat and hit Joseph in the side, slugged him a couple of times in the face then ran off! The miracle is that no bones were broken that day – truly a miracle! When the guys back at the mission heard Joseph was beaten with a baseball bat, they automatically assumed that Joseph was dead. Baseball bat attacks usually aim for the head, this attacker did not! God had other plans for Joseph and his precious wife, Tricia. We are so thankful he survived to continue ministering to people who need Jesus. Boy, was I surprised when Bobby and I got the burden to go to Skid Row to minister and feed homeless people there! We had said many years ago, “Here am I, Lord, send me.” Oh, the adventures the Lord will take you on when you just simply say “yes.” Would you believe that we fell totally in love with the people living on Skid Row? Not all of them were homeless. Some of them lived in apartments or hotel rooms there. The hotels they lived in were drug-infested and most likely they were rat infested. Skid Row is a filthy place with a stench you wouldn’t begin to imagine. Not only did we answer the call from God, but it was also really a no-brainer. The Word tells us to GO into ALL the world and preach the Gospel to every creature. We have met many creatures in our years of ministry and many of them are on Skid Row.
