Street Stories - A Ringside Seat To Over 4 Decades Of Taking Jesus To The Streets Of The World
headed toward the gate to board our plane back to Jakarta. We could not get out of Padang fast enough.
As we boarded the plane and took our seats, I knew at any time the police could come aboard and take us back off the plane. All of us were believing God for a quick take-off. I was sitting in an aisle seat; Brian Bennett was sitting beside me on my left in the middle seat and a Muslim man was sitting in the window seat next to Brian. I noticed Brian was chatting with the man. Suddenly, Brian turns to me and asks, “Do you have a Bible?” I responded to him, “Yeah, I have a Bible.” He said, “Can you give it to me?” I explained the Bahasa Indonesian Bible he wanted was in my carry on back pack up in the overhead compartment. He asked me to grab it and give it to him. As the plane engines cranked up and people were getting all buckled up ready to depart for Jakarta, I stood up and reached into the overhead and grabbed the Bible for Brian. As I gave him the Bible, he pulled out a yellow highlighter, underlined John 3:16, and handed it to the Muslim man seated to his left. I said, “Hey Brian, can’t you wait? Can’t you at least wait until we clear airspace here before you give him that?” I continued, “Isn’t that what caused us to get into all the trouble in the first place.” Brian has no fear of anything and shot me an “Aw Shucks” grin and said, “We’ll be alright.” His new friend began to read the Bible, starting with a freshly yellow-highlighted John 3:16.
