Street Stories - A Ringside Seat To Over 4 Decades Of Taking Jesus To The Streets Of The World

us, gaining on us at a high rate of speed. They began to hurl huge rocks at us, and we could hear and feel when each rock hit the van. They were gaining on us because those sleek motorbikes were speedy, and our chug-along van was no match for them. The rocks kept hitting the van as they were getting closer and closer. The jungle road we were flying down attempting our escape had been badly damaged by the earthquake. There were huge craters and cracks at each turn. This was definitely not the road you would want to fly down at high speeds. You especially wouldn’t want to do it with large rocks hitting the van with Kidnappers on motorbikes closing in from behind. Suddenly, as if a bomb went off inside the van, we hit high center on one of the craters in the road and we heard a loud explosion. Dark smoke flooded the van and the smell of oil and transmission fluid filled the air. None of us made a sound. As they say, you could have heard a pin drop. Rudy broke the silence as he asked Brian, “We did get the insurance, right?” I thought that was a strange question to ask given our circumstances. Our van was coming apart around us and the kidnappers were not too far behind. Then Rudy explained to us what the question really meant. He said when troops were fighting in Desert Storm, if their tank or vehicle got hit by a enemy munition and exploded, the soldiers would retort, “We did get the insurance, right?”
